The 2023 American Girl Doll of the Year is Kavi Sharma, a South Asian American theatre kid who loves Wicked SO SHE HAS A REPLICA ELPHABA COSTUME. I am absolutely ecstatic that kids get this.

SHE ALSO HAS THIS!! BECAUSE SHE PERFORMS A TRADITIONAL DANCE ROUTINE WITH HER FRIENDS AT SCHOOL AND SHE LOVES BOLLYWOOD

twitter limiting the amount of tweets you get to read per day is ridiculous but if tiktok limited the amount of videos people got to see per day it would be the biggest win for mental health since ssris

  • LOVE UR MLP DESIGNS but um. apple jack looks... weird without her hat. sorry if its rude

    Anonymous

    shirecorn:

That’s ok! My stuff doesn’t have to appeal to everyone and if you think that looks weird that’s fine. You can draw a hat on her if you want.

    Some advice, though.

You need to learn how to not love everything without telling artists and creators that. Part of engaging with art is being able to say these things to yourself, ask “does the author need to know my opinion?” and usually the answer is no. Creators are fueled by compliments on the work they choose to do. Complaints should be reserved for things you are paying for and actually Get to customize.

Its ok to have differing opinions and to wish people did things differently! It’s healthy to learn your own likes and dislikes, be able to put them to words, and then craft a healthy mindspace where you can appreciate what you like and appreciate what you don’t like by saying (to yourself) “not for me!”

You’re still learning this. Everyone is always learning something, don’t feel too bad. Genuinely.

I hope this helps you in your media and art appreciation journey

If you want to commission me to draw applejack with her hat, my doors are open

A painting of many disabled people of all gender identities, body types, and races. In the center is text that says 'Disabled people are experts of their own lives and know what they need.'ALT
A disabled person with one arm and dark skin, looking gorgeous, inspired by nadina laspina, with text that says: 'Disabled people's lives are not tragedies.'ALT
A disabled person with dark skin in a wheelchair with a speech bubble that says: 'No marriage equality until people with disabilities can marry without losing benefits.'ALT
A chameleon with text that says 'Not all pain is visible.'ALT
Three disabled people of different races, gender identities, and body types. One has a prosthetic leg. One has an amputated arm. One is in a wheelchair. Text says: 'People with disabilities have a right to make their own decisions about their bodies and lives.'ALT
A disabled person with lighter skin next to a service dog. The person's dress says: 'If your activism isn't accessible who is it even for?'ALT
A wheelchair-user with dark skin, looking exasperated, with a speech bubble that says, 'I'm not interested in your unsolicited medical advice.'ALT

Since July is Disability Pride Month

(as opposed to every other month when we’re all demure about disability rights /gentle sarcasm)

I wanted to highlight one of my favorite artists: Liberal Jane.
